It was a beautiful sunny day, and the cemetery was empty.
Walking slowly, with a bouquet of white roses I looked around.
Nothing, nobody, each grave getting dusty, I sighed.
Arriving at my destination, I gently put the flowers on an inconspicuous grave…
I laughed, with pain and mockery.
This small grave…
Was the grave of my arch-nemesis, a great superhero who saved the world several times.
I took out two cups, and a wine gourd out of my hidden space.
Pouring the fine wine into the cups, and placing one on the grave, I sighed.
Taking out some candles, I lighted them.
Sipping the wine, I sighed once more.
“Little Delilah, do you remember first High School year?
We got in trouble on our first week, because we fought using our powers, arguing over who will become the greatest hero.”
I said, of course nobody answered.
I downed the cup of wine, and empties hers onto the grass, before pouring us both new ones.
“Who would’ve thought, I will become a villainess, just because I wanted to end 2 companies, that led to the death of my father…
And who would’ve thought that you…my best-friend…would choose to face me, rather than help me…”
I whispered, as I downed another cup, and repeating the previous process of filling them both.
“Heh, you know, I hated you…
I hated you with passion!
We had our futures mapped out!
Become heroes, marry outstanding men, and then retire to the suburbs and raise our kids together, being neighbors…
Like in the old cliché spy movies…”
I chortled, and downed my 3rd cup.
I poured her cup once again on the grass, before filling them both.
“We fought like there was no tomorrow.
Whether I tried to catch someone that worked for those companies, whether I tried to destroy their plans, or kill the heroes employed by them…
You were there…
Valiant, always in the frontline.
Super-strength, speed, healing and reflexes…
Add to that your freakish talent in learning, there was no martial art in this galaxy you didn’t master…”
I laughed.
The wine was strong, but not stronger than my body.
The 4th cup’s contents disappeared quickly, while hers was thrown once more onto the grass.
“I travelled the universe, in hope of finding help, in hope of finding their weak links, and I did find them.
Branches on other planets, in other galaxies, one after another were wiped out by me…
After all, you were busy protecting this planet…
Calamities both planetary or galactic, you stood steady, never stepping back…”
I smiled.
Downed the cup, changed and refilled them, rinse and repeat.
“I came back…centuries later to find the 2 companies that went from top 1000 to top 10…
That made me sick, and angry, but I forgot all about it the moment I heard…
I heard that you died…”
I whined.
Downed the cup, changed and refilled them, rinse and repeat, but my eyes were stinging…
“I looked it up.
You went up and kept an alien fleet at bay all alone…because every other hero was worthless and afraid…
Then when our own fleet counterattacked…
You were caught in the middle…
You blocked the enemy commanding center all alone, and when the huge ship self-destructed…
You went with it…”
At this point, I cried…
I cried for my best friend, for my greatest enemy, for someone whom I saw as a sister…
I cried due to her bravery, her sacrifice, her misfortune…
Downed the cup, changed and refilled them, rinse and repeat.
“The bastards didn’t even hurry with the help, nor with the recovery of your body…
At first, people mourned you, but now?
Nobody remembers you!
Such Hypocrisy! Ungratefulness!
For God’s sake! This is why…this is why I wanted you to come with me…travel together…”
I said.
Downed the cup, changed and refilled them, rinse and repeat, but this time, my hands trembled…
I couldn’t…
This was too much…
“The wine that’s supposed to be brewed by harvesting, stars and planets, said to bring back the dead, and able to transform a barren planet, to a rich one with a single drop…
I stole the recipe, and made my own…
Destroyed 14 3rd grade, and 2 2nd grade stars to make 1 million liters…
We drank 10 cups, cups! Not drops…and yet, you…you are still gone…”
I cried…
The sky darkened, the clouds gathered, the wind picked up.
It was like judgment day…
Nature responded to my anger…
But I stopped, I cleared the skies, and smiled.
“I promised, in front of your grave to leave behind my grudge…
I gave up on my revenge, after making sure that I made their lives miserable through…lawful means by making public all the dirt I gathered on them…”
I said, putting away the cups and the gourd.
“You know, I found a good man, and we moved to the suburbs…
He is hiding his true identity…but so am I…”
I chuckled.
I stood up, and went up to the grave’s head, caressing the name, I sighed.
“You know…
I came today, because…
Because I am pregnant…
It’s a girl…
Her name will be Delilah…”
I said, smiling.
At the hero’s grave I considered as the only true hero, I changed my life centuries ago, and now, as my life’s turning out how our both lives should’ve gone…
I wonder…
I wonder if…when, I will be able to bring her back…
I left, laughing and feeling a bit guilty…
The grass in the entire cemetery became star-grade, and relentless…
I pity the gardener…
