Going to the guild, I went through my records…
So many years of adventuring.
From a youth that knew nothing, to an old man who knows nothing.
Heh, so ironic.
I always wanted to be an S-rank adventurer, and after I became one…I regretted it.
Sure, it was fulfilling saving people, kingdoms, and once even the world itself…
But…
But at the end of all of it, I had nothing.
I retired, had a family, and now that my kids are old enough to start their own adventure, here I am…
Back at my old guild, thinking about taking up an offer to be the Guild Master of this branch…
And now, going through the records, through this mountainous stack of papers…
I laugh.
So many missions, so much blood spilled…so many lives saved…
And there…
What ?
An unfinished quest?
A D-rank one…
“How amusing…”
I muttered, as I left the archive hall.
Going up to the counter, the lass that was waiting there, and dozing on and off, stood up straight.
“G-g-g-g-guild Master!”
She stuttered, trying to wipe the drool.
“Hehe! Stay calm, Octavia, I am here to declare that I am going on a quest.”
I said.
“Sir? You? A quest?”
She asked.
“Finding Old Man Evan’s cat, that old draconian, is still breezy and healthy.
It’s a quest I’ve taken on in my first month as an adventurer, and it seems…
I never completed it.”
I said.
“Okay Sir!
I’ve wrote it down!
Take care!”
She said.
“Haha! It’s a missing cat quest, what could go wrong?”
I said, leaving.
Oh, how wrong I was…
How wrong I was.
First, Old Man Evan laughed, when he saw the “snotty brat” with white hair.
So for old time’s sake, we had to drink…
He got me drunk…
And in my drunken stupor I promised I will find his cat.
A cat that has been missing for 60 years…
That was mistake number 1.
Mistake number 2 actually, as number 1 would’ve been that he was sure that his cat was still alive…
I should’ve asked what kind of cat can live for 60+ years…
But alas, nostalgia hit me hard.
Old Man Evan looked the same, not even a day past 200.
So I went out, leisurely seeking his cat…
Two weeks into the search, I found some clues leading to a cave, in the nearby mountains.
There the cave went downwards, for days, and days, and days have I travelled downwards…
Thankfully, as an S-rank adventurer, I wasn’t really “human” anymore, so I didn’t die, but it wasn’t easy…
There, at the end of the cave, I found an opening…
An underworld world, filled with demonic miasma…
His cat was there, I found it…
But it mutated, it had 11 tails, and was the size of a smaller mountain.
Even in my heydays, I would’ve needed the support of at least 1 mage to trap such a being…
And as I was contemplating, the cat awoke…
It opened it’s 6 eyes, and roared…
I chuckled and ran away, with the cat running after me.
My plan was simple.
Since everything went wrong, I could just hope that seeing Old Man Evan, the cat will relax.
Sadly, it wasn’t just the cat that followed me…
“Haha, at my old age, do I cause more mischief than in my youth…”
I chuckled, as I ran for my dear life…
