Super-dilemma

My wife’s and my life were the same for the last 10 years.
We met at a bookstore, when she was 20, and I was 22, and it quickly snowballed into marrying 6 years ago.
We never had a child, but we were happy, and still young.
At barely 30, when she was at her peak…an accident happened and I lost her.
I was devastated…
My home became a simple house, and it felt so, so empty.
My wife, she was a light in a world of darkness.
No matter how cheesy that sounds, it was the truth.
She was a nurse, helping others was her 1st nature, not 2nd.
After sadly, her and her sister’s parents passed away, with the inheritance, she schooled her sister, while opening a diner for those in need.
After she passed, many people’s life became a tad bit darker…
But her sister’s and mine…became the darkest that we knew.
Her sister was basically raised by her, and afterwards by us.
She’s 4 years younger than my wife was, but she always had this cold, aloof, gloomy personality.
She is a really good person, but God forbid she talks more than 2 sentences/hour.
But she’s my sister-in-law, and now, she’s got nobody left but me.
I took her in after my wife died, hoping that we can fill the hole that her passing left in both of us.
And it was…kind of working, slowly.
I am working in IT, so I am basically all the day home, so my cooking, and housekeeping skills are all maxed out.
She says nothing, but I can see her happiness after eating the meals cooked by me.
It is kind of reminiscent of my late wife…
And she’s really good with shopping online.
Like, I know obviously how to shop online, but she’s finding deals and better prices, like a hawk finds a hare in the fields…
She’s working at a bar as a barista (with her attitude, I think I know how is she always the employee of the month), so I guess she hears a lot of information.
It was decent for a while, we were getting better.
But then, the villains started to be even more active than before.
In our world, some people develop abilities.
My wife had super-hearing, I have photogenic memory and inhuman analytical skills…
While sister in law…well, I don’t know about her.
But villains started dealing blows to the law enforcement, and the city was in chaos for a while.
Until, a superhero cracked down on them…harshly.
I don’t know the exact details, but the government had to issue a formal warning to the hero, to lessen her damage to the villains, as even if they are criminals, they are still humans.
Not like it matters to me.
All I am happy with is that now that the villains are working in usual parameters, my workload is less, and salary a bit higher.
Also, I don’t need to worry about sister-in-law being caught in some shenanigans, at the bar.
Talking about sister-in-law, during these few months, we’ve gotten closer.
She almost talks 5 sentences with me during our meals, which is a steady improvement.
Also, she finally dresses normally, and doesn’t wear a coat even inside…when it’s really hot.
But because of that, I noticed strange marks on her skin, and also scars…
But I didn’t want to be pushy, so I said nothing.
Time slowly passed, and it’s been 2 years since the dreadful event.
Today, I’ve an easy day at the job, so I prepared a lunchbox for Amy (sister-in-law, finally, she let me call her by her name.), and I decided to take it to her.
Just as I was about to reach the bar, I saw a villain blasting a car into pieces.
Thankfully, a hero saved the driver.
Then, watching the hero and villain fight, I was terrified.
I quickly turned back, and went home.
There I fidgeted up and down, for hours.
Late at night, when I think I already started to bite my fingers, because I already destroyed my nails, the door opened, and Amy arrived home.
“Hey Josh.”
She greeted me, quietly, as usually, looking somewhere behind me, and not in my eyes.
“You are a goddamn superhero?
Are you sane?
You know the dangers, what are you even thinking?”
I said.
She paled, and froze.
“W-w-w-w-what are you talking about?”
She stuttered.
“Oh come on, from pictures and videos I was skeptical.
But I just saw you live, fighting a villain.
You know my memory, and skills, you think I would mistake your body type, and movements?”
I rolled my eyes.
She whimpered a bit.
I sighed.
“Look, I don’t want to be harsh, but you are too young!
A bit under 30…
I don’t want to..
I don’t want to lose you too…”
I said.
At this, she hugged me.
I hugged her back.
She was my late wife’s little sister.
I had to protect her…
As I thought that, a soft sensation on my lips woke me up.
She tip-toed and kissed me, before jumping a bit back.
I froze.
“It’s sudden, but I can’t anymore.
You shower me with love and attention, and I’ve had a crush on you since I was 16…
It’s been 12 years since then…
I like you Josh!”
She said, before simply disappearing.
I guess, extremely advanced superpowers are useful in these situations…
I touched my lips, and a bit of lipstick stick to my fingers…
Amy…
She was but a kid when I met her, but she grew into a fine young woman.
I am older than her by 6 years, but since the life expectancy is roughly 250, 28 and 36 are in the same generational bracket…
But that’s not a problem…
She’s the little sister of my wife!
But…
Do I like her?
Like, I know I like her, and love her…
But do I like and love her…like that?
I went to the living room, and slumped down on the couch…
“What a dilemma…
A super-dilemma…”
I muttered, chuckling and shaking my head.
I will have to choose, and clarify all this…
But not today…
Not today…
This is too much…
I have to visit my wife…maybe…maybe she will send a message from wherever she is…
This is too…
Too much…
